Before I give you steps that I used to make $4600 in 72 hours, I want to make sure you know where I was in my business. It’s important that you understand my mindset and what I had in my arsenal so you don’t get a false sense of what happened.

This was not a fluke.

I repeated the process over and over making another $22,000 in the next 90 days. However, I think you are going to be surprised by how I did it because it’s NOT what you’re usually taught in the world of online marketing and business.

I had no website. That’s not a typo. NO WEBSITE. That means no clever copy or opt-ins. That means no “about me” page or pleasure/pain pointed sales page.

Also, I had no signature package… I know you’re shaking your head right now saying, “WHHHAAAAT?”

I know. I know…but it’s true. I didn’t have a package because I hadn’t come up with one yet.

So, what did I have?

I had a mailing list of about 350 people but I DID NOT get any sales from my subscribers.

Honestly, I wasn’t really sure how to sell to my email list. I had just gone from being a tarot reader to creating a live 6-week online course that was mildly successful to deciding that I wanted to be an intuitive business coach. This all happened in the space of a year.

In that time, I took a 3-month group business course and then bought two DIY courses on how to get clients and create a thriving portable online business. Honestly, I got really obsessed with figuring out how to make money at being a coach.

I had always made really good money as a tarot reader. I got to the point where I could hop on the psychic phone lines and make my rent over the weekend.

Also, I had a nice docket of regular clients. So, if there was a week that I didn’t do well on the lines I would hit up my clients for work. I only worked when I wanted to and when I needed money.

At that time, I didn’t really care about sustainability. I didn’t really care about having a savings or figuring out a system to keep the money coming in. I figured that I could always jump on the lines or get another client and the money would just come.

It was pretty cool…

But then I got bored and frustrated with my clients. I was tired of answering the same questions over and over and over again. I was tired of repeating myself and giving solid advice that got ignored. I wasn’t really sure if I was helping or enabling my clients.

During that time, other psychics used to come to me and ask me for business advice. They wanted to know how I kept the money rolling in. I would give them my tips but really the bulk of my success came from two things: engagement and intuition.

I talked to a lot of people and listened to my intuition. Ya. That was my big marketing strategy…

However, I did like giving business advice and I LOVED the idea of being a coach instead of a tarot reader. So, I blindly started my journey by joining that first group coaching program.

In that time, I started my mailing list but wasn’t really savvy with email marketing. So, I didn’t see it as a valuable tool.
After taking the group program and studying those two DIY courses a lot of confusion set in. I had all these pieces of a giant puzzle that had to somehow try to fit into my business. Some of it made sense and I implemented it right away but most of it was like really complicated math. Seriously, there were formulas for everything.

I got frustrated with the whole process and almost gave up my business.

ENTER…my business coach…

Hiring a business coach was my last ditch effort…and it was EXPENSIVE. Honestly, I couldn’t afford it. It was waaaay out of my budget but my intuition said, “YES, DO IT!!” I had always listened to my intuition before and I knew it was the right then to do. So, I did it not knowing where the money would come from and not knowing what the outcome would be. I just knew I had to take a chance.

I’m not going to lie. It was hard…

Hard on my bank account. Hard on my relationship. Hard on my business.

I had to be vulnerable and honest and accountable. I had to stretch waaaay out of my comfort zone. I had to start to get real about business and think of it as an entity instead of some fun little hobby/dream I had in my head.
I was also really REWARDING. I started to implement all of the tools I had learned in all of those trainings. I started to think in terms of selling and engagement and product creation.

It all became very real and very exciting.

The one thing I realized right away was that the business I had going on when I first started coaching suuuucked. I was drawing in the wrong kinds of people – a lot of bottom feeders who didn’t want to pay for my services but wanted the benefits of being my client.

I realized that was a HUGE part of my frustration and I was LETTING it happen. I had a deep conversation with my coach and he suggested that I close all of my programs and start from scratch. So, that’s what I did. I shut everything down.

That’s why I didn’t have any programs or packages when I made $4600 in 72 hours. Literally, I was starting from scratch.

The reason why I’m telling you all of this is because I don’t want you to think that I had some complicated, crazy funnel that floated the money into my bank account. It wasn’t like that…

I was in this place of ripe possibility, sheer madness and a little bit of crazy desperation thrown into the mix. My boyfriend was angry at me for adding a $1000 a month to our budget on the premise that I would hopefully learn how to sell and get my business going. And I wasn’t too sure about my choices because there was no definite end in sight.

Seriously, this whole thing was an exercise in faith and stubbornness.

To make matters worse, I wasn’t in a place of being able to sell until the 4th month of my coaching because I had started from scratch. It felt like a full lifetime had passed before it was time to try and sell. I had my boyfriend staring at me every day waiting for there to be an outcome from all of the money that was leaking out of our bank account.

So, when it actually came time to put myself out there I didn’t really have anything to sell. I knew I could put together a half-day VIP day pretty quickly and I knew I could sell three months of coaching. There wasn’t a lot to that. No course work had to be put together and I didn’t need to have a website.

I decided my strategy was to wing it – engagement and intuition again. If someone wanted to work with me I would offer up a 3-month coaching package for $400 a month or a half-day VIP day for $500 as a down sell.

Next, I needed to figure out where to find clients. My coach told me to try LinkedIn because it was an untapped resource. He sent me an “invite” letter template to personalize and send out to my connections.

I customized the letter and then spent hours doing keyword searches and going through profiles on LinkedIn to see who would be a good fit for my services. Anyone who accepted my connection request would get my welcome letter.
Here is the exact letter I sent out. You are more than welcome to steal it and tweak it to make it your own. I have re-written it 4xs since this inception of it.

Subject: I love your work

My work revolves around helping other passionate and powerful women bring their unique message to a wider audience and create more wealth in their life.

I am offering you one of the few one-on-one strategy sessions (for free) that I do each month.

I got a LOT of requests for strategy sessions and I was so excited to start talking to people and hopefully make sales. It didn’t happen that way at first, though.

The first 15 strategy sessions I did were a bust. I did NOT make a sale. Not one. Not even close.

If we’re talking averages, you usually need to talk to 5 people to make one sale. That’s about 20%. So, if you want to make 2 sales a week you need to talk to 10 people, etc.

My 0% average confused the hell out of me. I had the handy-dandy sales script down. I was asking the right questions. I was doing everything I had been taught and it wasn’t’ working.

I talked to my coach about my non-sales and he told me not to worry about it. I was learning the art of selling even though I didn’t realize it. Not entirely sure if my coach was right or just placating me, I went back to sending out invitation letters and made up my mind that I would keep trying until something happened.

I got more sessions. That part of was easy. I had my little routine down. Every day, I would go on LinkedIn, do a keyword search for words like “psychic” or “intuitive coach” or “energy healer” and then I would go through the profiles and invite them to connect with me. Then, I would go through my connections and send out the invitation letter to anyone who was new.

Sometimes, I would spend nearly 4 hours on LinkedIn doing this process. I’m not going to lie. It was mind-numbing. I started binge-watching shows on Netflix to pass the time. A couple of times, I fell asleep in the middle of keyword searching. That’s how tedious the process got to be. However, I had a goal in mind. I needed to figure out how to make a sale.

And I did. It was call number 16…and 17…and 18…and 20…and 21…

Starting on a Monday, I made 5 sales in 3 days – 2 half-day VIP days and 3 coaching packages. I took Thursday through Sunday off and then sold another coaching package on that next Monday. I ending up making a little over $22,000 more dollars in the next 3 months.

So, what changed in call number 16 that got me sales? I stopped using the sales script and started talking to the person on the phone like a human being. I connected to the person and their pain by listening and engaging. By being there and not worrying about the sale. Most of the time, I didn’t have to pitch. They asked ME to work with them which felt really good.

When I told my coach that I started to get sales he was both excited for me and flabbergasted that I sold so many packages in such a short amount of time. He still uses my story as inspiration for those who are struggling with sales.

Here’s the thing. I’m not telling you this story to brag or to show you how awesome I am. I’m writing this down because I want you to know that the bells of whistles of business don’t get you sales. Big lists don’t get you sales. Fancy funnels and automations don’t get you sales.

They help. They really do.

However, YOU are the driving force in your business. YOU have the power to thrive or to fail based on how much time and energy you want to put into your business.

Yes, I learned a shit ton from all of those courses and I had a really great business coach that pushed me hard. But I was the one that took the GIANT RISKS and did the WORK. I was the one who put in the hours and did countless keyword searches. I was the one who listened to my gut and went off script. I was the one who didn’t stop after having 15 failed calls.

Believe me. After speaking with 15 people and not getting one little bite…I was upset. I questioned myself for days wondering what I did wrong. It pushed all of my insecurity buttons and I didn’t want to talk to anyone anymore. I don’t like failing.

But I sucked it up, put on my big girl panties, and did it anyway. I KNEW that I had to get past that last hurdle to see the rewards of all of my hard work.

I know some of you are thinking that I broke a lot of LinkedIn netiquette rules for sending out invite letters. Or that I’m not selling in the correct way or that I’m using sleazy tactics.

And to you, I say this: Leaders don’t follow rules, they make them. Sheeple follow rules. So, are you a leader or are you a Sheeple?

I am a leader.

I have a very good relationship with myself and I know what I will and will not do. I have a strong value system that I run everything through before I make a decision. Also, I have my intuition which never fails.

So, I run my business the way that I want to and I would hope that you would do the same.

Maybe my tactics feel weird to you and that’s okay. I have made some really awesome connections through those letters that I sent out on LinkedIn. I’ve also met a lot of really powerful women that ended up being my friends. To me, I am connecting and engaging and doing it for the highest good. Nothing else matters.

The major point I want you to take away is this:

You don’t need a fancy website or the latest CRM software or a giant segmented funnel to makes sales. What you need is good old-fashioned engagement. Get out in front of people. Talk to them. Help them.

You also need hustle and the willingness to be uncomfortable. You have to be willing to be hurt and cry and frustrated. You have to be willing to get up, dust yourself off and start over again until it works.

That means sometimes the formulas don’t entirely work. Sometimes, you have to throw away the script and do it your own way. Sometimes, you have to create your own formula.

So, don’t be afraid to play around with ideas. Don’t be afraid to fail.

It’s all part of the game.
